Things To Do In Morena Madhya Pradesh From isharethese.com

From Gwalior, Morena is a great day travel destination. Gwalior to Morena is 39.6 km away and takes about 1 hour to go there via the Mumbai-Agra National Highway. A thorough visit to Madhya Pradesh’s (MP) Morena region should ideally take two full days. But if time is of the essence, here’s a carefully planned one-day itinerary for Morena MP that highlights the area’s treasures in ancient and medieval architecture.

In the past, Morena was a hub for Hindu temple design. A visit to Morena in Madhya Pradesh is highly recommended if you have a strong interest in architectural heritage. Our modern-day heritage gems were constructed by the Kachhapaghata and Gurjara-Pratihara dynasties. They governed from the 7th to the 12th century, when Morena had its greatest period of temple construction.

Sadly, though, the Morena ravines turned into a haven for guerilla activity during the 20th century and gained notoriety for their fabled dacoits.

Things to Do in Morena, MP

This is a suggested one-day itinerary of activities in Morena, Madhya Pradesh. See this: Top Activities in Gwalior City.

Make plans to visit Bateshwar initially when the weather is still mild and arrive early. Because Padhavali and Mitaoli temples have some shade, they are suitable for morning and afternoon visits. To get nice pictures of Kakanmath Temple reflecting the last of the sun’s rays, visit the temple near the end of the day.

Bateshwar Temple Complex

At almost 200, the Bateshwar Temple complex is home to the greatest concentration of temples in all of India. Karnataka’s Aihole, with its 120 temples, is next. Across about 25 acres of land, set aside at least 30 minutes to observe and take in the restoration efforts currently underway.

The three primary Hindu deities, Shiva, Vishnu, and Shakti Devi, are honored at the temples located here. Bhooteshwar, another name for Lord Shiva, is thought to be the source of the name Bateshwar.

The Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty constructed the Bateshwar temples in the Nagada architectural style between the eighth and tenth centuries using sandstone. It is thought that prominent figures from that era built these little temples as a token of gratitude. This area was covered in thick undergrowth after being severely damaged by an earthquake in the eighteenth century. This location was long used as a haven by dacoits fleeing the infamous Chambal Valley; this use continued until the early 2000s.

Padhavali Shiva Temple

The Padhavali Shiva temple in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena area is a hidden treasure. They informed us that they constructed this in the 18th century to defend against the Mughal invaders’ relentless destruction of the Shiva temple.

After descending the stairs, the only thing left is the temple’s mukha mandapa. All of the Garbha Griha have been leveled out. Only Shivling is within the stark boundaries around them. Three-dimensional representations of Hindu gods and goddesses are intricately carved into the ceiling, panels, and pillars. Among the few temples with such three-dimensional sculptures. The figurines appear to be about to pop out of the surface.

Within, an 18th-century fortification safeguards a Shiva shrine dating back to the 9th century. Large statues of a lion and a lioness guard the gate. The Mukha Mandapa is the only thing left of this temple’s Garbha Griha.

Mitaoli in Morena MP

Worth seeing is the round Chausath Yogini temple, which is perched atop a rocky hill. The temple’s frame remains sturdy despite all of the damage, vandalism, and devastation it has experienced, drawing crowds of worshipers to it. The temple’s round structural elements have withstood earthquake shocks without suffering any harm.

People also refer to the Mitaoli Chausath Yogini Temple as the Ekattarso Mahadeva Temple due to the numerous Shivalings found within its 64 shrines.

With one hundred stairs chiseled out of the rock, the ascent is brief but sharp. Once you’re up, the serene atmosphere inside the building and the surrounding picturesque views will enchant you. Explore the temples during your free time.

Kakanmath Temple

Kakanmath Temple, a collapsed eleventh-century Shiva temple in Madhya Pradesh’s Sihoniya, will leave you speechless! It looks like a pile of gravity-defying stone building bricks!

All that’s left of the temple is its inner sanctuary. The remnants of the building are in ruins and dispersed randomly around the grounds of the temple. There are plans to dismantle the current building piece by piece, numbering each block precisely as they go. The plan is to start a thorough reconstruction of the whole temple.
